The Working Principles of Electric BB Gun and Gas BB Gun

Various types of automatic airsoft guns are available in the market. Of these, the most popular and easily available are the Electric BB Gun and Gas BB Gun.

The automatic electric BB gun has a small electric motor and is fitted with a battery that can be charged again and again to power the gun. The small electric motor drives the internal gears of the gun which are used to drive a piston and spring assembly. The task of piston is to actually launch the bullet. Each of these guns can fire as many as 600 to 1000 rounds per minute. A standard gun can attain a muzzle velocity of anywhere between 150 ft/s to an impressive 650 ft/s.

Gas powered airsoft guns are the other popular option available in the market. As the name suggests, the Gas BB gun uses gas from a cylinder to launch the round. The gas powered system is more used in compact models because it is less voluminous. It is also preferred where blowback models are required.
These guns are more complicated to handle and are losing out market share to electric BB guns.

Gas and electric bb guns

There are three types of bb guns. They are electric bb guns, spring bb guns and gas bb guns. All these three types are popular but of all electric bb guns are most popular though they are costly also. But gas bb guns are also not less popular and the good thing is that it is less costly in comparison to electric powered bb guns. In electric bb guns rechargeable battery is used. It drives electric motor which drives an internal piston to launch pellets. Electric bb guns are both automatic and semi automatic in operation. Electric bb gun is widely available and most popular gun. Gas bb gun is also getting popularity day by day. It uses pressurized gas to propel pellets. These guns are also automatic and semi automatic in operation. The most common gas used in gas bb gun is called green gas. It is a mixture of HFC-13, polysiloxane and propane and co2. Sometimes red gases are also used but usually it is avoided in bb guns as its high pressure can damage the bb guns.

Strike the Right Balance between Fun and Reality with a Gas BB gun

A BB gun uses three types of methods to propel the pellets such as the electric battery power, gas pressure and spring power. The name BB is derived from the size of the shotguns that were initially used. The size used to be in between B and BBB.

An Electric BB gun has the following characteristics:
  • The speed at which a pellet can be fired is approximately 240 – 285 FPS.
  • There are various accessories that can be used along with an electric BB gun such as laser sights, Bi-pod stands etc.
  • Shooters can practice on various targets such as shattering and spinning targets, plinking cans, metal silhouettes etc.
The Gas BB gun has the following features:
  • It mostly uses compressed gas such as the 12 gm CO2 power let. The power lets are mostly used in pistol BB guns.
  • A certain type of Gas BB gun can provide a machine-gun like fire. They are used during carnivals and for training anti-aircraft gunners.
An unbridled use of these guns is strictly prohibited to avoid any untoward incidence.
